Hands-on roof thatching workshops are coming to Boglands Hideaway in Gorteen, Daingean, County Offaly — a private, rustic hideaway where the only schedule that matters is the rhythm of the reed.
Work with sustainable water reed under the guidance of experienced thatcher Mike Davies of Thatching Ireland. Practice roofs, real structures, traditional and contemporary methods. Complete beginners and the simply curious are exactly who these days are for.
1-day taster (typically 10:00–16:00)
2-day or 3-day immersions
5-day deep dive
Thatch repair and ridge repair days for cottage owners who want fewer surprises
Lunch is included. Tea, coffee and snacks are always on. Gloves and PPE are provided (wear safety shoes if you can, and dress for Irish weather). Tools come from Thatching Tools Ireland. Free parking. Adults only (18+).
2027 dates are already on the calendar — places are limited. Warm up first with the free online modules, then book your spot.
